Tsunami

A tsunami is a series of sea waves produced by the rapid displacement of a large mass of water. The main causes are strong earthquakes - with epicentre at sea or near the coast - underwater or coastal landslides, volcanic activity at sea or near the coast and, very occasionally, meteorites falling into the sea. All Mediterranean coasts are subject to tsunami risk due to high seismicity and the presence of numerous active volcanoes.
