I don't take risks at the Genoa Science Festival

The workshop "Can we really forecast natural events? Open challenge to understand nature" is scheduled

La locandina del Festival della Scienza 2024

Today, October 24, marks the beginning of the Genoa Science Festival, a significant event focused on spreading scientific knowledge. The festival offers a variety of events throughout the city, including exhibitions, workshops, meetings, shows, lectures, and more.

"Challenges" is the central theme of the 22nd Festival edition, shaping approximately 300 events to engage visitors with science from diverse perspectives.

The "I don't take risks" campaign is also present with a workshop titled "Can we really foresee natural events? Open challenge to understand nature," which will take place at the Biblioteca Berio. This activity is designed for children and schools, aiming to provide young participants with an opportunity to think about the predictability of natural events. The workshop will emphasize how forecasts are influenced by a high degree of uncertainty, mainly due to the challenge of interpreting data. It will also highlight the importance of understanding the local environment and being aware of potential dangers as essential tools for reducing the impact of natural events.

The workshop delves into the theme of risk reduction, guiding participants through the intricacies of this subject. The session then presents two intersecting pathways with simulations of various scenarios designed to prompt reflection on the predictability of extreme events and to encourage the implementation of effective prevention measures, both individually and collectively, to minimize their impact.

The "I don't take risks" campaign is returning for the third consecutive year at the Science Festival. Once again, the campaign is committed to spreading knowledge, raising awareness of the risks we all face, and promoting actions to prevent or reduce their consequences.
