Climate change and future challenges: a conference in Rome to define the city's adaptation plan
The capital is part of the "100 carbon neutral and smart cities by 2030" program promoted by the European Commission

The "Climate: Adaptation Challenges in the City of Rome" conference took place on January 18 at the Campidoglio, an important forum to discuss the implementation of the Capital's urban climate adaptation plan.
The meeting was attended by representatives of institutions, municipal civil protection, technicians and experts. Among the arguments of the debate was the realization of a mapping of climate risks and the definition of an action plan to identify priority activities to be put in place to reduce the impact of extreme events on the territory and population, with particular regard to the most fragile citizens.
The two working sessions-dedicated respectively to the management of water resources and the role of forestation in countering the negative effects of heat waves-were an opportunity to reflect not only on the situation in the Capital but, more generally, on the climate scenarios expected for Italy and the entire Mediterranean.
Climate change is definitely a core issue for Rome, which has been included by the European Commission in the "100 carbon neutral and smart cities by 2030" program to speed up towards climate neutrality within seven years. The conference was the first of a series of appointments and activities scheduled in the Italian capital on the topic of climate change adaptation: from the energy upgrading of the building stock to the closing of the waste cycle and the development of sustainable mobility to stimulate a proactive role of citizens.
