Floods in Italian regions

In Italy there is a significant amount of historical information regarding the major flood events, surveyed, organized and published in time through dedicated websites and geographic portals. Since the nineties several national projects have targeted the identification and mapping of locations and areas affected by geo-hydrological disasters, among which there is the AVI project. The map represents the number of flood events per square kilometer for each Italian region and was prepared using the information on surveyed flood events  noted by the AVI project for the 1918-2001 period. The collected information applies to either physical aspects related to the dynamics of hydrological processes and damage and socio-economic impacts produced. The database contains information on over 7500 floods and more than 12,000 sites affected and is the only archive of news on the floods that occurred in the 20th century in Italy
